Every state
Nine marks, on lines and on the edges of boxes.
Named means the file exists. Passing means we watched it run and pass. Neither of them is a grade.
The marks
A line is one box calling another. A box’s edge is that box tested on its own. Both use the same nine marks.

- PassingThe test ran on your main branch and passed, and we read the result.
- Partly testedSome of its checks ran and passed. The others haven’t been written.

Marks aren’t grades
A mark says what’s been proved. A letter says what the code does. A line can go solid while the letter beside it stays exactly where it was, and that’s the system working rather than failing.
